IREOS, within its waste management and environmental remediation activities, has acquired the management of a waste storage and treatment platform in the city of Livorno. The main activities of IREOS – Livorno Operating Unit are the collection and transport, temporary storage, selection and sorting, reuse, treatment and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous special waste.

A treatment plant for hazardous and non-hazardous special waste is installed on the Livorno platform with an inertization process through the addition of hydraulic binders and any other additives. This treatment is based on chemical-physical principles that allow the lowering of pollutant concentrations, in particular with regard to their leaching, aimed at complying with current regulations regarding disposal at final plants. The waste to be inertized undergoes a process of solidification and chemical complexation of the metals that allows their suitable disposal at final plants.
